The German furniture quality assurance association (Deutsche Gütegemeinschaft Möbel e.V. (DGM)) awards the "Golden M" quality label to furniture manufacturers who conform with the requirements of the RAL-GZ 430 (General quality and testing regulations for furniture). This quality-controlled furniture can then be advertised with the "Golden M" quality mark.

In the case of leather furniture, the leather is subject to rules governing emissions, smell, tanning chemicals and colouring chemicals. The same applies to the award of The Blue Angel to the leather manufacturers.

The rules for the use of split leather are defined more strictly due its quality. In accordance with the requirements of the quality association, it is not permissible to use split leather on seats, backs and armrests. Split leather may only be used outside these contact areas and must clearly be marked as split leather.
