Nubucato or Nubukato was a pigmented smooth leather, which had the appearance of a nubuck leather. This type of leather was only known in the furniture sector. This type of leather no longer exists.

The bright centre areas of the grain often darkened in contact areas with time. The bright peaks result from a crystal-like coating that rubs off with time.
