In 2014 a company started a project to produce a material looking like [[leather]] out of the grape skins, stalks and seeds of wine grapes. The material didn’t contain any [[leather#What materials can be called leather?|leather fibres]]. But the name of the material was chosen as “wineleather”. In 2017 the Italian Tanners Association UNIC interfered successfully to stop this name as the material is not [[leather#What materials can be called leather?|leather]]. The product has been described as a totally ecological and 100% vegetable material. Expressions like wineleather or wine leather are not allowed to be used when the material is not [[Genuine leather|genuine leather]].
