Cabretta leather is a common name in the USA for South American hair sheeps (not wool fur) and used for gloves and shoe uppers. However, it is also made from skins of similar hairy sheep from other countries, eg from East and West Africa.

The name derives from the Spanish and Portuguese word for goat (Cabra), even though the term is used for sheep leather.

Cabretta is processed hairless as smooth leather. It is chrome-tanned, fine-grained and soft as leather of young goats.
