Cat Scratches on leather
Cats very commonly damage the leather surface of furniture with their claws. Scratches leave light marks on dark leather and dark marks on light coloured leathers. In addition, the scratches are notable as the damage to the surface leaves it feeling rough. The difference in colour can be easily covered with repair products. The actual damage to the surface can usually only be improved.
The surface damage is the main problem.
Easy to improve: The colour difference is the major drawback.
The leather can only be replaced.
Leatherette furniture. A repair is not possible..
Rare damage to car leather. Mostly if the cat was accidentally locked inside.
An exception: Leather shoes. Shoes actually must not be hidden from cats.
Dog scratches and stains on leather
Dogs cause considerably less damage on leather. Sometimes dog’s hair can leave grease stains on the leather. Sometimes dogs can cause scratch marks on leather when ‘digging’ before laying down, although their paws are not as sharp as cat’s claws.
Scratches by dog paws.
If anything goes.
The darkening left comes from greasy fur.
