Cat scratches on leather
Cat Scratches on leather
Cats are notorious for damaging leather furniture with their claws. Scratches leave light marks on dark leather and dark marks on light coloured leathers. They also leave the surface feeling rough. Repair products are available to camouflage the marks but the actual damage to the surface cannot be fully repaired.
The surface damage is the main problem.
Easy to improve: The colour difference is the major drawback.
The leather can only be replaced.
Leatherette furniture. A repair is not possible.
Rare damage to car leather. Mostly if the cat was accidentally locked inside.
An exception: Leather shoes. Shoes don't actually need to be hidden from cats.
Dog scratches and stains on leather
Dogs cause considerably less damage on leather. Sometimes dog’s hair can leave grease stains on the leather. Occasionally dogs can cause scratch marks on leather when ‘digging’ before laying down, although their paws are not as sharp as cat’s claws.
Scratches by dog paws.
If anything goes.
The darkening left comes from greasy fur.
