At the end of the twentieth century, Lavalina leather was a popular aniline leather for furniture, which was treated with a strong oil and water repellent. These furniture were sold in the mid to high price segment. The strong impregnation was done to achieve the ease of cleaning and care of pigmented leathers and the naturalness and haptics of aniline leather. After about ten years, some colors strongly faded and a typical problem with these leathers were the fat staind in the hair and skin contact area, like for all other aniline leathers too.

The original Lavalina leather was an intensive waterprooved aniline leather for furniture.

Today, Lavalina leather is still being processed by the car manufacturer Alpina. However, this is a semianiline leather with a protective layer on a pigment basis. Due to the pigmentation, the leather is significantly better protected against fading and fat stains. However, it does not have the porosity of the Lavalina leather of the first generation. For the vehicle sector, however, this is a sensible compromise.

Lavalina leather is also available in the furniture sector. Its a semianiline leather, which is offered with a special production method, the so called drum pigmentation.

The Lavalina leather used today by the car manufacturer Alpina and also the Lavalina leather in the furniture area is a semi-aniline leather.
