We carry a lot more leather on the body than we usually realize. As leather jackets, leather pants, shoes, gloves, leather belts or watch bands. Leather is a constant companion for most people.

Jackets, trousers and gloves made of leather are called "leather clothing". The most common animal species for clothing are cows, sheep, goats and pigs. This is because leather is almost exclusively processed from animals that are bred for their meat.

In most cases, the fashion companies and clothing shops are not the manufacturers of the leather clothing, nor the manufacturers of the clothing have tanned the leather. This is done by tanneries that sell the leather to the manufacturers of the clothing, which make the clothing for the fashion companies. The manufacturers and tanneries are mostly located abroad, where production is more cost-effective because of the high manual labor input.
